History
Cronos is the personification of time. The youngest TITAN; son of Uranus and Gaea. Cronus slew his father Uranus with a sharp sickle fashioned by his mother Gaea. The Titans were set free and Aphrodite (goddess of love) ascended from the remains.
Cronus then ruled the cosmos and by his sister-queen, Rhea, fathered the great gods of Olympus:
- Zeus
- Poseidon
- Demeter
- Hera
- Hades
- Hestia
Cronus received an oracle prophesizing that he would be overthrown by one of his own children. To prevent this, Cronos swallowed his children as soon as they were born, until he was deceived into swallowing a stone disguised as Zeus.
Rhea gave Zeus to the primeval Earth goddess Gaea to be raised in secret. He was hidden in Crete, and when he was older, he returned and forced Cronos to disgorge all the other children, who had grown inside of him.
The adult Zeus and his siblings fought a war against Cronos and the Titans, called the Titanomachy. Zeus won, and the Titans were confined in Tartarus, the lowermost region of Hades.
