- Water Freedom: His body automatically adapts to compensate for changes in pressure, light, and temperature. He can function with no penalty at any depth and is unaffected by rapid pressure changes. As he adapts to greater and greater depths, he becomes more inhuman in appearance.

History
Kingsley Rice was born a mutant with various adaptations allowing him to survive underwater. Although he felt isolated from the "surface world," he still became a founding member of the Squadron to use his powers to help protect the oceans from exploitation. Amphibian never became overly close with the other members of the Squadron. He objected to their Utopia Program and eventually left the group because of it, destroying some of their behavior modification equipment in the process. He rejoined the Squadron after their return from exile to help fight against the New World Order.
