History
MoM's appearance changes depending upon who is percieving him. He has appeared as an anime-inspired hero, as Miracleman and as a mysterious woman covered in ivy who was presumably Gaia, the Hindu goddess of Death known as Kali, Jesus Christ and as the Mother of Creation. People see him as they want to, he explains that this is because reality is far more maleable than humanity believes. In his anime guise, MoM's look changes consistently from panel to panel. The tattoos on his face are different each time, the logo on his chest appears and reappears and sometimes his shirt disappears but his logo remains visible on his skin. It is unknown why there is such little consistency to his look in this form.

He is a being of immense power. He was able to create Christopher from Spawn's heart. He somehow collected around 6,000 souls that died at the same time as Al Simmons and was able to infuse them into Spawn during his creation. He was masquerading as Kali and during this time proved far stronger than Spawn not only mentally and mystically but physically as well. This of course leads to more questions that it gives answers.

Man of Miracles was revealed to be Mother, a being whose power is without equal. Mother gave each of her infinite children a world to run as they wish; God and Satan were both given Earth. God and Satan constantly bickered and fought to the point where they declared war on one another. Mankind, being created by God but given free will by Satan, became unique and Mother decided to act on their behalf, rather then let her children use them as cannon fodder. Mother stripped both of her children of their kingdoms and made them sleep in a forgotten corner of the universe. Mother then came to Earth as Jesus Christ, spreading a message of love and tolerance. This message being corrupted by mankind, Mother saw that Armageddon was inevitable. Giving mankind a chance to survive, Mother preserved all the souls that had died in the same hour as Al Simmons and placed them inside of Spawn. Spawn represents the potential of mankind and must prove that humanity is worth saving from God and Satan's feud. Mother brought back God and Satan as the human children of Terry and Wanda Fitzgerald in order to give them an appreciation for humanity and change their ways. This plan failed, as the twins simply became more insane than before and wreaked further chaos on Earth. They have since regained their memories, powers, and kingdoms and are bolstering their armies for the final push that will begin Armageddon.

Mother has also been revealed as being The Keeper of Greenworld, the voice of the Emerald Parliament and the one who originally summoned The Heap.

Since late 2005, two years after the famous owner/creator's rights lawsuit between Neil Gaiman and Todd McFarlane, there has been much speculation as to whether the Man of Miracles is a retcon of the disputed character, Cogliostro. According to the Spawn creative team, Man of Miracles was a planned addition to the comic cast prior to Cog's "departure," but was originally supposed to be Miracleman.

Additional legal issues regarding the ownership of the Miracleman character required a change of plans.

It was revealed that McFarlane owned the rights for two trademarks on Miracleman logos, but no rights to the character himself as he and most others believed. The artwork for the Image Tenth book, released in late 2005 as the Image Hardcover, was already finalized before this revelation. Hellspawn Issue 13, however, had not been finalized and McFarlane chose to change his plans for that issue in a move that helped lead to the cancellation of the book only a few issues later. Since the Image Hardcover story ties in directly with the events of Spawn Issue 150 and beyond and Miracleman could not be used, he was replaced by the mysterious Man of Miracles. This is explained by the fact that the perception of Man of Miracles differs from person to person. They see him as they want to see him and thus Spawn saw him as Miracleman. Subsequent appearances have been more varied to further distinguish the character and avoid dispute.

Since Cogliostro and his actions remain in continuity and available for use and Man of Miracles is the result of a retcon for Miracleman he cannot be considered a retcon of Cog.
